HOW DOES THIS WEATHER AFFECT YOUR PROPERTY?

Anyone who’s been outside or even looked outside will see we are experiencing some pretty awful weather. The snow, sleet, rain and wind hitting us from all angle's isn’t very pleasant I know… so what can we do to keep our properties from suffering from the bad weather?

Well if you’ve got water coming in from the roof the obvious sign is water dripping in, the not so obvious signs are bulging ceilings and staining. If you see these signs the first thing to do even just to make sure is call us, we will assess the damage free of charge and If need be set about fixing the damage and stopping it at the source. Water can also come in through your walls which is regarded as penetrating damp, this is usually from a constant or regular stream of water penetrating the external fabric of your property from such things as a leaking down pipe or gutter. More often than not with penetrating damp you wont see any physical water it will be staining on the interior damaging decoration. Condensation will also be worse during spells of bad weather such as this due to lack of ventilation, more time spent indoors and high humidity levels. Condensation can often be miss diagnosed as a more serious issue so if your unsure just give us a call.

We can all help ourselves by taking measures such as using extractor fans, using dehumidifiers, opening windows or at least vents, keeping the property appropriately heated (don’t overdo it with the heating especially if windows are closed) Adding insulation to external walls is also great alongside ventilation such as passive vents and positive input ventilation systems.
